Troubleshooting Readings for Others

When conducting divination for others, one might occasionally run into issues that may affect the accuracy, or the ability to do the reading effectively. Here is a small list of problems that could affect readings, and potential solutions where applicable.

Spirits Blocking the Readings

There are three primary reasons for this: malicious spirits, overly-protective spirits, or messages only meant for the client that the reader is not allowed to know.

In the case of malicious spirits, blocking the readings is typically done to prevent identification, or clear advice on what to do to counteract the spirit. To solve this, general protective actions such as cleansing, warding, banishing, binding, and so on should be conducted.

Other times, spirits are not malicious, simply over-protective. They may block all readings by default, unless specifically asked by their person to allow the reading. Therefore to prevent this, it is generally good to have the client send out a quick message to all of their spirits, letting them know that there is consent for this reading, prior to the reading itself. In most cases that will instantly solve the blockage. However sometimes, very over-protective spirits may be like, “well you didn’t really give consent for the reading, so I will continue blocking.” If this happens, asking the client again to notify their spirits, more firmly this time, will usually resolve it.

If this still does not resolve the issue, then the very-protective spirits might require the reader to do something before allowing the reading. Often they may ask the reader to cleanse their own energy, or to set up protections to guard the reading. It is best to ask the client to connect with their spirits to see what their requirements might be.

Sometimes, the reason for spirits blocking the reading is neither of the above. Instead it may be that the reading concerns a topic that is truly only meant for the client to know about- not even someone reading on their behalf is allowed to know. In this case it is best to move on to other topics that the client may have questions about.

Energetic Incompatibility

It can be more difficult to read for those who have an entirely different energy composition than you. This difference can make you have difficulty connecting to their energy and really vibing with them in a way that their energy and essence can be imbued into the reading.

Depending on how severe the disconnect is, this could be negated to a degree by spending time meditating and connecting with the client’s energy prior to the reading.

Protections Lacking Specificity

Many times, those new to the craft may weave their protections without precise enough intentions. These non-specific protections may end up blocking readings. Two primary examples are:

  • “NOBODY may read me, ever.”
  • “I block all external energies from interacting with me or my space.”

In this case it is best to notify the client if you think their protections are blocking you from conducting a reading with full accuracy. To both prevent and solve this, it’s best to ask the client to make a temporary exception for you in their protections prior to conducting a reading. To do this, the client should project the intention of allowing you to read them into their protections.

While it is possible for an experienced magician to work around this, or conduct the reading anyways, it makes the reading more energy intensive. Why conduct a more strenuous reading when a simple ask would make the reading much easier? You could spend 20 minutes figuring out ward work-arounds, or you could spend two minutes asking them for a quick ward adjustment.

Personal Bias

I do think that reflecting and consciously including your own personal experience and knowledge can add value to a reading, especially if that reading is in an area that you have a lot of personal experience in. However, this personal input may detract from readings that are in areas you may feel strongly about, and therefore might be injecting just opinion rather than intuitive truth.

To prevent this, during readings, try to notice when thoughts arise from your own consciousness rather than from that deeper level of intuition. Thinking itself has layers, and it’s only through meditation that you’ll learn to distinguish conscious, everyday thinking from the deeper intuition that guides readings.

Internal Resistance to Reading

Sometimes, clients may subconsciously resist being read. This is usually related to deep-seated emotions concerning privacy, but may also be a side effect of wariness due to recent spiritual or psychic attacks. Ask the client to try and open themselves up for the reading, and try again. If the issue still persists, then it is best to revisit the reading at a later date, if they are still interested.

I would not suggest forcing the reading, for two reasons. First, the act of receiving a reading is quite intimate; it interacts with deep levels of the recipient’s energy in a way that is difficult to describe in words. Basically it interacts with someone on a very personal level. Forcing the reading is like forcing your way into them; forcing them to reveal their secrets and vulnerabilities which they are not ready to share. This type of resistance usually occurs with readings that may touch on such vulnerabilities.

The next reason is that the client may not be ready to hear the messages from someone else’s voice. When the client is not ready, they may reject the reading regardless of if you are right or not, simply because it is too painful to hear. This just makes both parties mad. So best to just drop the reading or revisit at a later date if you feel this type of resistance.

Client not Ready

This elaborates a bit more on the above. The client may claim that your reading is incorrect or irrelevant, even though you felt fully connected and did not feel any energetic issues during the reading, and overall felt confident in your reading. Unless the client is someone you are very close to, you must always assume that the client knows more about themselves than you. There is a very high chance that they are right.

Therefore I would not jump to this conclusion unless:

  1. You did a clarifying reading and it said exactly the same thing, or supported your initial message, AND
  2. It has been verified independently by another experienced reader.

To resolve, offer a verification reading. If it supports the client’s rebuttal, then you have your answer, and should go and meditate and consult with your own spirits why that reading was inaccurate.

If the verification instead also supports you, then you could suggest to the client to get the reading independently verified by someone else. If that also supports your interpretation, then you have your answer. Unfortunately, even if communicated politely, that might make for an unhappy client. The client may continue to reject your interpretation anyways. It may help to ease tensions by suggesting that the issues may be subconscious, or that it might be information that the client will not realize until a later date.
